The Ford Plantation Golf Course
Renowned golf course architect Pete Dye commented, "This is arguably my finest
Southern design." The Ford Plantation Golf Course is seen as a tough but fair test of golf.
The front nine is designed around 250 acres of freshwater lakes, and the back nine is an
exquisite Scottish-links style design created within one of the original plantation rice
fields.
Fishing, Hunting, and the Great Outdoors
The Ford Plantation has 200 acres of fresh and brackish water lagoons, providing
excellent fishing for such species as largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish, redfish,
and flounder. Anglers can fish for a wide variety of fresh and saltwater species in the
Ogeechee River, including striped bass, American shad, redfish, and sea trout. The
remnant channels and canals from the antebellum rice plantations provide outstanding
habitat for many game fish. It is also an enjoyable ride through the protected waters to
Ossabaw Sound, where the ocean meets the river. Fishing for salt water species, such as
giant red drum, sea trout, triple tail, and shark is fun for the novice angler, as well as the
seasoned pro. Tarpon appear in local waters in late June and can be caught through early
September. Members and guests have privileges at a nearby hunting preserve, which
offers sporting clays and upland wing shooting. Ford offers hiking and biking on more
than 16 miles of scenic trails and kayaking on protected waterways.
The Spa
The Ford Plantation Spa, formerly Henry Ford's Carriage Home, is nestled among
ancient live oak trees and lush gardens. Relax and renew your body, mind, and soul
at the elegant and rejuvenating Spa. Pamper yourself in the hydrotherapy tub, enjoy a
luxurious facial and outstanding massage, or receive a complete make-over--hair, nails,
and make-up. The Spa features a spacious yoga room where private individual and group
classes can be arranged as well as special events and trunk shows.
The Sports Complex/Pools
The Sports Barn is a state-of-the art fitness facility featuring squash, basketball,
volleyball, cardio and weight machines, and Pilates (including a reformer). Instructors
are available for classes, including spin, core training, Pilates, yoga, Zumba, and body
sculpting. There are also Har-Tru tennis courts as well as a grass court for croquet, bocce
ball, and lawn tennis. Heated and cooled swimming pools at Lake Dye and The Main
House are available year-round.
